Charter
The publication is presented as satire, not comedy, and certainly not reality. As Robert C. Elliott observed, "In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement." Satire involves irony and sarcasm, often presenting reality in its most absurd extreme, but it is not necessarily comedy. For that reason, this publication does not like to invite comparisons to comedic magazines such as The Onion, National Lampoon, Cracked, or MAD. We are not attempting to mimic their styles or content. The humor contained herein falls more in line with the ironic and absurd, as embodied by people such as Andy Kaufman, Thomas Pynchon, and others. So, yes, this is not The Onion. Yes, this is more subtle. No, this is not an attempt to imitate The Onion. It's not supposed to be like The Onion at all, although we have a tremendous amount of respect for it.

Dislaimers
The Bennington Vale Evening Transcript is a satirical newspaper. The Bennington Vale Evening Transcript uses invented names in all its stories except in cases when public figures are being satirized, or in reference to characters that are the licensed property of Thomas Pynchon and HarperCollins Publishers**. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental.
*San Narciso County, California, does not exist. The zip code is an open code within the California postal system, which has no affiliation with the Thurn and Taxis mail carriers nor the shadowy brotherhood of the Trystero. Thomas Pynchon made up the town. We have exploited and expanded upon his creation. Do not attempt to send mail to the addresses listed in articles with local/regional themes. Do not send us mail or try to visit us. We don't live in San Narciso, which again does not exist. We cannot emphasize this point enough.
